Employers hiring foreign workers are required to obtain an Insurance Guarantee (IG), the Foreign Worker Hospitalization and Surgical Insurance Scheme (SPIKPA), and PERKESO Policies.
Starting from January 1, 2011, the government has made it mandatory for all employers to obtain SPIKPA for their foreign workers. Without the SPIKPA & IG insurance for foreign workers, employers will not be able to renew their foreign workers’ work permits.

The Insurance Guarantee (IG) serves as a guarantee to the Immigration Department to cover repatriation expenses if a foreign worker is required by the authorities to be sent back to their home country while in Malaysia. The coverage period set by the Immigration Department depends on the work permit, whether it is thirteen (13) months, eighteen (18) months, or twenty-six (26) months. Employers must purchase a new guarantee when renewing their workers’ permits.
